The Ganesha Experience

My friend U is in the country on her holiday and am flying out to C to meet up with her this weekend. Since she is a big Ganesha-in-modern-form fan, went searching for cell phone and IT Ganapathy representations.

Stumbled on Chandni - The Ganesha Shop on the web and lugged the kids to the place on MG Road. Another AliBaba store - Ganesha Galore and all kinds of representations in all kinds of material. The best thing is that the owner is of the old school where he is totally passionate about the content/concept and it is not just a business.

Worked hard to limit myself to 5 little statues in metal and terracotta. The owner mentioned that today was the most auspicious day to buy Ganeshas and thought I had made the trek knowing this. The shopping aspect of being religious! I did get a 20% discount and a little rosequartz elephant god to travel with me in my purse.

Found it really interesting to see the attitude of the older, passionate-about-my-concept entrepreneur. He apparently gives a 25% discount every Sunday to try to steer some mall-going crowds to his store. The key word for me was discount while he thought it should be 'sacrifice of profit'!

Later!
