India...Cricket...IPL!

The new sensation in already sensational cricket - the Indian Premier League (and to be fair, its precursor and first-to-market Indian Cricket League). 20-20 cricket, rock show atmospheres, cheerleaders and celebrities. The cricket itself is pretty hit or miss....either a nail biter or Yawn, performing or failing.... all on sensational scales.

It is great for business and entertainment. It is sad to see that gentlemen who play the game the way it is meant to be played may not succeed in the format. IPL seems representative of India today - aggressive, hungry to succeed, a bit intolerant of the 'old days', immature in some ways and positive/raring to go in others.

It is getting Shankar and I out of the house, without kids (thank you, Asha and Ashok!) into a crowded stadium on a week day for the first live cricket match of my life. We have watched so much cricket - as a family, in an US university auditorium (India-Pak semi final nailbiter in a world cup) and now a live match. My team is the underdog - figures, I could only root for one! :-)

Hi Sangi - love what you've done with the place. :-)

Nice post - especially liked the comparing of IPL to India; although not sure I follow "intolerant of the old ways" as it relates to India (as it relates to IPL, I totally follow. :D)

Totally jealous that you get to go out for a whole game, sans kids. A point of view you wouldn't have heard from me a few months ago. Enjaaii maadi.

Btw, how ***could*** you write a post on IPL, be from Bangalore, and ***not*** write about the Redskins cheerleaders? Cha, maybe Shankar should have written this post. :p

Sorry dude - cheerleaders would have been big news (still are for some...) in the days before Malaika Arora Khan/Mallika Sherawat.

Wish my DC roots had a better representation here.....now if you guys visited with the new baby, it would be worthy of a blog entry! :-D

Shankar will have his turn to be blinded today....by my smile! He gets back after 22 days of travel! Don't think he will be looking at the cheerleaders (yeah, right!). :-) By the way, it has taken us 6 years to do this without kids - don't wait this long!
